The Sugarfoot Stompers play New Orleans jazz. They are a Thomas-Davis crowd favorite, having played the Leaf Peepers Festival, ArtsSpring, the Purple Fiddle, and local brewpubs for years.

Fronted by trombone, trumpet, clarinet, and backed by banjo, acoustic bass, washboard/percussion, the boys bring joy to audiences with rockin’ improv sessions on traditional blues and Dixieland tunes.

Band leader is Steve Vortigern on trombone and vocals. A multi-instrumentalist, Steve earned a master’s degree in jazz performance. He also plays in community jazz bands. Moe Turrentine on trumpet is a music educator, conductor, arranger, and player from the University of Miami. Gino Mauricci plays clarinet with Sugarfoot and sax with his rock ‘n’ roll band. He studied at Eastman School of Music and toured with Winton Marsalis.

The rhythm section is Stephan Moylan on banjo and vocals, Matt Eary on acoustic bass, and Fred Jacoby on percussion. All three perform in multiple bands and vocal groups ranging from long-hair rock ‘n’ roll to neatly trimmed barbershop.

Everyone lives in or near the Deep Creek Lake-Oakland area of Western Maryland.
