“The first time I heard Laura play and sing, I was stunned. It was like listening to an Elf sing. Not one of the cute Keebler elves. I’m talking a Tolkeinesque Elf. Ten thousand years old, with magic powers in every bone. The trees like children, spellbound, listening, and bending low to catch a glimpse of the singer. The wind itself holding its breath and going silent so as not to drown out that voice. That kind of Elf.” – Bill Eichman
Laura exhibits a poetic and technical depth that has garnered comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, and Norah Jones. She writes intimate folk music with classical influence; along with being a singer-songwriter, Laura has a degree in classical guitar performance and studied classical piano from a young age. She draws upon her training, technique and many classical composers when crafting her own intricate style of songwriting. Laura has self-released two albums, Counting Eyes (April 2014) and Fall Away (November 2017). Hailing from the hills and valleys of Central Pennsylvania, Laura found her way down to the mountains of Western North Carolina where she continues to write, record, and perform.
Laura has a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar Performance from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, where she also studied classical piano. In the fall of 2013 she studied with Los Angeles Guitar Quartet members Scott Tennant and Bill Kanengiser at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. Laura has participated in masterclasses with Pepe Romero, Denis Azabagic, Adam Holzman, Martha Masters, Ben Verdery, Sergio Assad, and Duo Sudamericano.
