“Mile Twelve has Bluegrass’ best interests at heart. Really good songs that mean something, picking that makes you grin and twitch, plenty of scalpzinging moments… what more could you ask for America’s best drivin’ music? I’d be fine sending this to aliens. “ – Darol Anger
“Mile Twelve is carrying the bluegrass tradition forward with creativity and integrity.” – Tony Trischka
Mile Twelve is an exciting new voice in contemporary bluegrass music from Boston, MA. Combining a love for traditional bluegrass with songwriting skills honed at renowned music schools, they present a refined and powerful musical directive. With influences from folk, jazz, oldtime and bluegrass music, the band’s original songs are a timely continuation of the bluegrass string band tradition. Lead singer Evan Murphy has been singing his whole life, developing a distinctive vocal sound rooted in bluegrass music. In addition to providing original songs for the band, he anchors the rhythm section with his deft guitar playing. On fiddle, Bronwyn KeithHynes is a seasoned performer, having played with Tony Trischka, Peter Rowan and The Milk Carton Kids among others. She also won the 2014 Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle Championship in Winfield, KS. Catherine (BB) Bowness, a native New Zealander, brings driving and intricate banjo playing into the fold, along with tasteful jazz sensibilities honed at the New Zealand School of Music. Bass player and vocalist Nate Sabat is a Berklee College of Music graduate and one of the primary songwriters. Nate’s knowledge of bluegrass bass playing has already earned him an invitation to speak at the 2015 International Society of Bassists Convention.
