Growing up on a steady diet of musical influences in North Carolina that ranged from Doc Watson to Neil Young, Rob Nance now writes songs that echo the traditions of southern and contemporary folk music to create a unique brand of roots rock. His newest effort, Signal Fires, pushes the boundaries of traditional songwriter music by blending sounds and styles that are as comfortable played with a full band as they are on an acoustic guitar.
“Music drawn from a somewhat primal source – the soulful side of southern rock, somewhat diffused to fit within the realm of a singer-songwriter approach, rough edges and all. It hits a deep nerve, refusing to let go – which can only mean a promise of good things to come. The music, the arrangements and a good deal of the musicianship are simply too good to be any accident.” – Blurt Online
“If you need to wet your whistle on a modern take of Americana, Rob is your man. Lost Souls and Locked Doors is awash with finger picking, Appalachia bluegrass, modest Gutherie style strumming, and swooning folk harmonica.” – Pittsburgh Music Mag
