2016 RockyGrass Band Winners!!
“With one foot in Kentucky Bluegrass and the other in a galaxy far, far away, they are post-modern grassers at heart.” – Alison Brown, Compass Records
Capturing a moment, and a place — its past, people, and terrain within a song, The Wooks harness the rich musical and storytelling traditions of Kentucky into a new, old sound that embraces both string-music heritage and rock ‘n roll, jam, and singer-songwriter influences. Since 2014, the band, CJ Cain (lead guitar, vocals), Harry Clark (mandolin, vocals), Roddy Puckett (bass, vocals), George Guthrie (Banjo), have delivered a raw, boot stomping, sing-along to every song, good-time bluegrass show, “…with improv-savvy interplay that endears the band to jam music fans and bluegrass traditionalists alike,” according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The Wooks are a high-energy bluegrass band from Lexington, KY. With a songwriting style steeped in the history of the Bluegrass state combined with a love of Jazz, Americana and Country, The Wooks deliver captivating live performances. The band is sponsored by non-profit Can’d Aid as part of their Tunes Ambassadors program. Their sophomore album “Glory Bound” debuted at #2 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts and the group has supported Tyler Childers, Infamous Stringdusters and Steeldrivers on sold out shows on the East Coast and Texas. Major 2019 festival performances include Railbird, FloydFest, Blue Ox and Devil’s Backbone Hoopla. Confirmed for 2021: Roostertail Music Festival (IN), Master Musician’s (KY), Bristol Rhythm & Roots (TN), Front Porch Music Festival (VA), Vine Grove Bluegrass Festival (KY).
