“Singer-songwriter Theo Lawrence, 28, may have been born and raised in Paris, France, but his heart and soul have been basking in the deep sounds of early American rock and roll and country music since he picked up an electric guitar at 11 years old.

In September 2023, the self described country crooner moved his home base from Bordeaux, France, to Austin, Texas. Along with guitarist T.Bo Ripault, and business partner Leila Benbouriche, the second half of his independent record label, Tomika Records, and occasional songwriting partner, the trio of friends are living in the United States on a three-year work visa. They are thrilled to call Austin, known as ‘the live music capital of the world,’ home. Of course, they recently bought a big American car, a 1989 Chevrolet Impala, to get around town.

It’s been a dream come true for Lawrence to live and work in the United States, and soak up American roots music culture. Well known in Europe, Lawrence was on the cover of French Rolling Stone in February 2023, with a feature on the release of his critically acclaimed record, Chérie, a collection of 12 impeccably written, original country songs. With its classic studio sound, listening to Chérie, one might assume that the album is an undiscovered gem from the early 1960s by an undiscovered country artist. That is, if Lawrence is new to your ears.

With his previous band, a pop-rock foursome known as The Hearts, Lawrence opened for Robert Plant during a series of European concerts in 2018. Leading a country band in 2022, Lawrence again opened for Plant, who was then touring with Alison Krauss. For Lawrence, who grew up as a fan of Led Zeppelin, it was a surreal experience.”
